Writing Assignment 9 - Feature Article
The feature article is THE THING that defines your site. While it certainly isn't the only thing that makes your site a "must visit" for someone looking into your project topic, it is your major contribution to the topic. It will require research, and should actually add something to what's already on the web. You might be synthesizing (bringing together) material found on other websites, but that synthesis actually contributes in a substantive way to what is already out there.
First Draft Due Date: November 13
Final Draft Due Date: December 4
Your Task
1) You have a major website project idea. You need a "hook" to bring someone to your website. Content is King! You'll write a 750-word (minimum) feature article for your website. The first draft MUST BE 750 words!
2) Your article is the centerpiece for your website and should have your stamp on it. Choose something very focused that you already know something about so you can make a contribution.
3) You'll need to conduct some research to do this well. Your work on the Links Assignment will help, but you really need to add something to what's already available. You'll bring your own knowledge to bear on the topic to get your angle or spin. But good articles also reference what others have written or said, so you'll want to draw from some of what is already on the web (and link to it).
4) For the first draft, focus mainly on getting your content down and clearly identifying the sources for some of your ideas. Don't worry too much about formatting for the first draft; we'll work on that as we revise for the final draft and talk about putting it on the web.
5) Hand in a print copy of the feature article, and load onto your website once you have built the template for your major project.
