Writing Assignment 1 - Make a Blog Post
Once you've created your blog, you're ready to roll. This assignment invites you to start blogging!
Due Date (for first blog post): September 11
This course has only two requirements for your personal blog.
Rule 1. You must blog at least once each week during the term, starting
with Week 1.
Rule 2. Blog posts must be reflective in some way. (Show some thought.)
Follow these two simple rules and you'll earn the easiest 10% ever. Ignore them at your peril.
I hope you will blog at your personal space more than once per week, but it isn't required!
Important Note: You are not expected to blog about the course in your personal blog. I hope you'll blog about something that interests you, and that you'll post observations/reflections/commentary on whatever that something is. (People blog about food, music, politics, their children, or anything, really.) Find a topic that excites you, think about the people in the world who might read your blog (your audience), and blog regularly in interesting ways.
Strong Suggestion: Blog on a topic that interests you enough to become your major Web Design Project for the course. Your blog will be a place for you to collect important links, comment on what you find on the web, explore ideas, etc. And when you get to the Web Design Project itself, you'll be able to plug your blog right into that website and create a real live and interactive feel to your project.
Your Task
1 - Read the notes you took when you took the "quick tour" of
Blogger.
.:Consider what you want your blog to be about (a hobby, perhaps).
.:Think about your notes and your blog topic.
2 - Now, blog on the use of blogs in general, and your blog in particular.
.:There is no minimum word count, but remember Rule 2 (above).
If you don't feel like you "get" blogs yet, look at how Wikipedia defines the blog. I'm not sure it's possible to understand blogs until you're actually blogging. If you're still confused after reading Wikipedia's entry for blogs, don't worry. Just blog. You'll find your groove.
3 - Send me a link to your blog (cripps@york.cuny.edu). Done!
