Pre-Proposal Research Draft – Synthesis with a Purpose

First Draft Due: October 12, 2004 (3 full pages)
Final Draft Due: October 26, 2004 (4 full pages)

Think of this paper assignment as a “pre-proposal research draft.” This means you’re trying out an idea for a research paper based on just a little research. This paper will help you do several things. It will give you an opportunity to better understand concepts in Omi/Winant’s and (or) Nagel’s essays. Second, it will enable you to start working with sources on your idea for a research topic. Third, it will help you to practice using synthesis as a tool to help you develop and support your ideas.

Your assignment is to write a four-page paper (typed, double-spaced) in which you use Omi/Winant and Nagel to make sense of your research on your topic. You must work with 3 sources for this assignment.

If you use either Omi/Winant or Nagel, you must work with two of your internet-generated sources. If you use Omi/Winant and Nagel, you may work with only one of your internet sources.
